Happy Monday Disney Students and Families! If you are looking for a fun craft to do from home this week, making Worry Stones requires minimal supplies and are ready to use after only 30 minutes! Worry Stones have been used since ancient Greece times to relieve stress, tension and anxiety. When rubbing the stones between our fingers or palms, it releases endorphins in our brain, creating a naturally calming and euphoric effect. Worry stones can also be used as a fidget for students who focus best when having something in their hand. What you will need:
Directions:
While your stones are baking in the oven, have a conversation with your child about when it is and isn't appropriate for them to be using their worry stone. Expectations may vary depending on the child. Worry Stones can be used when your child is feeling nervous or when they are feeling happy. I have been fidgeting with mine while sitting at my desk doing work and I love it!
**If your child is extremely escalated, it may be best to keep the worry stones out of their sight, so they don't try using it as a weapon. Positive self-talk can have a big impact on how we think and feel. Over time, engaging in more positive self-talk can help reduce stress, improve self-esteem, increase motivation, inspire productivity, and improve overall mental and physical health. Educators, counselors, and parents can have a huge role in helping kids and young adults develop a greater voice for positive self-talk (Pathway 2 Success, 2017).
Have your child complete this positive self-talk journal to help them identify what makes them feel confident and happy in their own skin, even during times of struggle. Happy Monday! Practicing a mindfulness strategy is a great tool to use to help bring your child back to focus before they begin a task. Please have your child watch and listen to the video below and see how it helps them become in tune with themselves before beginning their school work this week.
